Museum of Transport & Technology
MOTAT opened in 1964 and since then has been explored and enjoyed by millions of visitors.
MOTAT holds over 300,000 items in our collection showcasing the innovation, technology and ingenuity of Aotearoa. Take a moment to explore the collection and the fascinating stories of the people and places connected to it. Plus information about the Walsh Memorial Library, and how to contact us with a collection offer.
MOTAT's permanent and short-term exhibitions draw on objects from our extensive collection to engage minds and tell inspiring stories of transport, technology and Kiwi ingenuity.
Open daily, 10am - 4pm. MOTAT is set across two spacious locations, with a tramway linking the sites. A ride aboard the free heritage tram service is popular for visitors big and small.
